The budget for TLW was $74 million, but production reportedly came in 6 days early and under that limit.

Well, I didn't know the guy, but I'm sorry to see him die so young.

    And Amanda Knox is free!

Seriously though. It's grim that he's dead. Man was a genius.

    wow, what a shock. rip.

Msg #5: On 10/5/2011 at 9:20:00 PM, raptor2000 replied, saying:
So sad...the guy was only 54. Seemed like a nice guy, and was responsible for most of the biggest innovations in mobile electronics over the past decade or so.

    RIP

Msg #6: On 10/5/2011 at 9:32:37 PM, Carnage141 replied, saying:
Sucks he is gone but how is this a shock? He's been battling cancer for quite some time.

    R.I.P

Msg #7: On 10/5/2011 at 10:06:54 PM, Raptor Vinny replied, saying:
    Innovations?

    Not really.

He was just the leader of a company that popularized some technology. Almost everything Apple has done lately has been done before. The only difference was that OMG Apple is doing it now! They just have a really strong marketing arm.

Msg #8: On 10/6/2011 at 2:40:11 AM, Narrator replied, saying:
    "Not really."

    YA RLY.

Anyway, he must have felt good that his death would be read about on things he made and sold.

Msg #9: On 10/6/2011 at 3:19:48 AM, Cameron replied, saying:
Obama must be thrilled, finally a Jobs loss that he isn't being blamed for.

Msg #10: On 10/6/2011 at 10:01:27 AM, IKK_Viper replied, saying:
You must admit, the man was a very innovative dude. So sad to see this news...RIP Steve...

Msg #11: On 10/6/2011 at 12:06:10 PM, Raptor Vinny replied, saying:
    No, there's a difference.

It's like Halo. Halo was not innovative, but it was revolutionary in the sense that it changed the mainstream business.

Same deal with Apple. MP3 players, tablets, smartphones etc. all existed for years before Apple released their own versions (that were typically worse than their competitors; they just had strong design and ease of use). They popularized things through their strong cult fanbase which bought shit regardless of quality, features or price.

Steve Jobs is a brilliant salesman and marketer, and I do give him credit for the Apple II and for helping Pixar along. But he's not as innovative as people make him out to be, such as when Spielberg compared him to Thomas Edison (or maybe the comparison is apt, seeing as how Edison was a notorious thief. But obviously that's not what Spielberg meant).

Not a fan of the snarky comments here. Can't people show a little respect?

Jobs was a peerless salesman and innovator who helped create great products and thousands of jobs. It's a sad loss.

I haven't scoured news/rumors/gossip on the net about it, but you have to wonder if he knew what kind of a time table he had left when he stepped down at Apple, this coming so soon afterwards. Was this a relative surprise, or did doctors/family know it was imminent but it was kept away from the media? Either way, sad news.

And while I can sympathize somewhat with Vinny feeling that Jobs was overrated (he didn't "invent" iPods, iPhones, or iPads, etc.), I think he was still very important, just in a more subtle way. A quote in your linked article sums it up almost perfectly, I think: “Steve’s big contribution to the computer industry was to take it away from the nerds and give it to the people." Certainly, strong marketing and a loyal fanbase (*raises hand*) helped, but they were only part of the picture.

Bill Gates and Microsoft were far more important for spreading the use of the PC, yet I somehow doubt people are going to be as sympathetic when he dies. Even worse considering Jobs is a fucking douche who ended philanthropy at Apple when he came back while Gates donates billions to charity.

Msg #15: On 10/6/2011 at 12:31:18 PM, Ostromite replied, saying:
I'm afraid I have to agree with Vinny for the most part. Jobs was a brilliant marketer who turned Apple into a cultural force instead of just an electronics company, but it's not as if he personally invented any revolutionary technology.

That said, I do honestly feel sad when someone dies so young of a freak illness, especially when they even had access to all the money and best health care the western world has to offer.

Just a bunch of nerds overreacting about the new iphone coming out later this year because they wanted the iphone 5 and got an updated iphone 4 instead. Nobody is forcing them to buy it and everyone knows the iphone 5 will be out within a year anyway. Everytime a new iphone comes out the apple fanboys bitch and then buy it anyway.

Msg #20: On 10/6/2011 at 8:38:08 PM, Raptor Vinny replied to Msg #18, saying:
Immigrants stealing jobs, if you didn't get the other joke.

Msg #21: On 10/6/2011 at 8:42:18 PM, Trainwreck replied, saying:
    *facepalm* oh...I get it now!

And I don't recall anyone ever complaining about immigrants stealing jobs...just illegal ones.

Msg #22: On 1/10/2021 at 10:55:43 PM, Raptor Vinny replied, saying:
Steve Jobs still sucks ass. The one asshole opinion from 2011 I will stand behind.
