On the subject of breaking records, yesterday MovieWeb reported that Steven Spielberg himself doubts that The Lost World would do as well as the original saying, "In my opinion, The Lost World will not equal or surpass Jurassic Park either domestically or internationally." However, they observed that, "Spielberg himself is likely to earn more for the new film than he did from the original, given his deal with Universal which gives him 17.5 cents on every dollar grossed, up from 15 percent on Jurassic Park. "Steven will probably make even more than Universal, which is unheard of," commented an unnamed Times source." (thanks to Babi30930)
Here's another picture from the excellent "Making of The Lost World" book by Jody Duncan, thanks to Wayne Smith:
I added some more Merchendise pictures (in the Media Gallery), from Compy and Krunker418. Here's a shot of the "Hunter Humvee", which should be out in stores now:
This strange little rumor keeps popping up: Andrew Husband reports that according to a movie magazine, "Universal Pictures is now selecting the cast for a Jurassic Park TV series." Whether this show will actually exist and whether it will be animated or live action is yet to be officially confirmed.
The new issue of Entertainment Weekly has a cover story on the Lost World ("The Lost Weekend" is on the cover). Inside is an article entitled "How the studio guaranteed a $100 million hit". Other articles include one on Pete Postlewaite, and a parents guide to the Lost World. (thanks to XFILEKSR)
The Lost World will be released in Brazil on June 20th. (thanks to Alvaro). It will be released in Panama on July 25th. (thanks to Jorge Luis Aleman)
Matt Brand sends along another "Goof" in TLW - When Nick meets Ian, Eddie is trying to get the phone working and he is listening to the wrong side of the handset. In the next scene, he is holding it correctly.
Next Generation Online has a preview of The Lost World: Jurassic Park for the Sony Playstation with some new pictures. (thanks to Bradley Young)
In the Cracked Magazine tradition of satirizing popular movies, the current issue does the treatment on The Lost World. On the cover is the familiar JP logo, except with the words "The Lost Hurl: Jurassic Puke". Har Har Har. (thanks to Tommy)
And in other movie news today, Harry reported yeterday that a fourth Indiana Jones movie is in the works, which will have to do about some sort of evil younger Jones. Check out Ain't It Cool News? for details.
From Wednesday's Tonight Show: A clip from when the T-rex attacks the camp and wakes everyone up:

Check out these exclusive behind the scenes shots of the sets used in JP2 from Universal Studios Hollywood: (thanks to Compy)
The Dreamworks Interactive website has been updated, with lots of cool new info about the upcoming Jp2 game for the Sony Playstation. Highlights include a Windows 95 theme (I'm downloading it right now) and sections on the making of the game and characters ("Everything you need to know about who's who in this dino-eat-dino world").
David Koepp, the screenwriter of JP2, was on the Universal Chat last night. I have to say, his interview was quite more informative than the previous ones with Goldblum and Moore--here is the transcript of the interview. Some interesting tid-bits to note:
Tim Trace reports seeing a "Goof" in JP2. Supposedly when Ian takes the binoculars from Eddie to look at the InGen helicopters, he's looking through them backwards.
From the Wild Speculation Department comes this potential JP3 logo, made by B-MAN
According to SpiceBoy, JP2 will be arriving in Singapore on June 5th.
The three JP2 posters (T-Rex Head, T-Rex's Eating, and the "You Are What I Eat" Raptors) are also being sold in your local Sam Goody Music Store, which is probably cheaper than ordering them online. (thanks to J.T.)
For a little humor, check out Zenpickle's Everything I Know I Learned from The Lost World page. "It's good to be a woman -- For some reason dinosaurs don't eat them.". And while we're on the subject of websites, here's an equally funny page: The "Lost World Sucks" Page, run by this disgruntled individual. (thanks to Jason Pense)
Jeremy Curll made some Real Audio clips of Tuesday's Jay Leno interview with Jeff Goldblum. Here's Clip #1 (Leno's opening monologue w/JP2 joke), Clip #2 (intro to Goldblum w/another JP2 joke), and Clip #3 (excerpts from the interview with Jeff Goldblum)
David Koepp will chat live tonight at 9pm EDT in the Universal Chat Room
Two more easter egg's have reported in the movie. The first, reported on Jeremy's LW Page, occurs at the beginning when Malcolm is reading a newspaper on the train with the headline saying "Raptor". Secondly, "Comsognathus" reports that to the left of the "No vegetables, animals, etc." sign in San Diego, you can see a "safe-crossing" sign picturing three t-rexes holding hands.
I spotted a new LW Commercial last night--this one had shots of the San Diego sequence, which I had a feeling they would start to show very soon. The narrative was "First, they ran wild on a distant Island, now they'll get you where you live. The Lost World." (thanks to Kid4N64)
JP2 will be released in Korea on June 14th. (thanks to jipark@lg.co.kr)
And for those of you who were anxiously awaiting the release of Jim Cameron's mega-flick, Titanic, you'll be waiting for awhile--I just heard that this 200 million dollar "summer" film has now become a "winter" film -- it's been pushed back to December 19th.
Here is a .RA clip from yesterday's Entertainment Tonight (thanks to Jeremy's LW Page), where movie-goers and movie executives alike express their amazement on TLW's box-office gross. They do mention near the end that there are currently no plans for a JP3, although whether that is correct or not remains to be seen.
By the way, while it's not official yet, it is most likley that The Lost World surpassed the $100 million dollar mark some time today or last night, making it the fastest movie in history to garner that much dough in so little time.
Added two release dates: JP2 will open in Hong Kong and New Zealand on June 26th. (thanks to Ying Tik Lung Allen and Matthew Grainger)
More "Lost" Scenes: A mysterious inside source tells me that Spielberg and Company actually filmed a scene where a T-rex smashes into Benjamin's ("There's a dino in the backyard") bedroom, totally destroying it but leaving the family unscratched.
[From Mr. Showbiz:]
The film is likely to pass the $100 million mark tonight, thereby doing in five days what last year's record-holder, Independence Day, did in seven. Rocco attributed part of the film's success to the fact that few theater technology allows exhibitors to show a single print simultaneously on adjoining multiplex screens, allowing owners to open additional theaters for spill-over crowds, thus accommodating demand. The film also benefited from recent ticket-price hikes. Exhibitors were overjoyed with the results. Cineplex Odeon spokesman Howard Lichtman told The New York Times: "The crowds for this one are virtually every age, every demographic, every color. ... What you have here is an incredible awareness and brand equity built up by the first movie. We all expected it to be an incredible blockbuster, but not this incredible."
Added a review from Entertainment Weekly, thanks to R.J.
I am very happy to report that yesterday, Dan's Lost World: Jurassic Park page broke the 100,000 hit mark! When I first started this page, I had no idea it would be this popular--I have only you to thank! Even know JP2 has already come out, I will continue to update the page as long as people keep coming and there is news to report.
Raptors in San Diego?? Take a look at this "artists rendition" of a possible scene from JP3, by Compy:
John Maier sends along some of the "Lost Scenes" in The Lost World from the Topps Comic book:
The second "cut" scene..Roland and Ajay are talking in a restaurant:
TEMBO:Ajay?
AJAY:How did you know?
TEMBO:That cheap aftershave I send you every christmas. You actually wear it. I'm touched. What brings you to Mombassa?
AJAY:I got a call from a gentlemen who's going to Costa Rica,or whereabouts. IF he's to be believed, it's a most uh...unique expedition. And very well funded.
TEMBO:You go.
AJAY:But alone,we always had great success together,you and I.
TEMBO:Just a little too much,I think.
AJAY:How do you mean?
TEMBO:A true hunter doesn't mind if the animal wins. But there weren't enough escapes from you and me.It all became a tedious routine, didn't it? We were a firing squad-and overqualified, don't you think? These days it's a more serious crime to shoot a tiger than to shoot a person. Tigers have advocates.
Tembo is starting to notice what's going on with the tourists and the waitress. He approaches one.
TEMBO:You,sir,are no gentlemen!
TOURIST:Is that supposed to be an insult?
TEMBO:I can think of none greater. What do I have to do to pick a fight with you?Bring your mother into it?
TOURIST:Are you kidding?I could take you with one arm down.
TEMBO:Is that so?
The waitress ties down one of Tembo's arms.
TOURIST:I meant MY arm.
Tembo hits him.The tourist attempts to hit back, but Tembo kicks him clear across the bar into a table. Ajay approaches Tembo and begins to untie his arm.
TEMBO:Sorry.You were saying?
AJAY:You broke that man's jaw for no reason other than your own
boredom.Tell the truth,Roland, aren't you even interested in this expedition's quarry?
TEMBO:Ajay.Go up to my ranch, take a look around my trophy room, and tell me what kind of quarry...could possibly be of any interest to me.
Ajay smiles.
It was bound to happen. "Eng6345" reports seeing boot-leg copies of The Lost World for sale on the streets of Queens, New York. Just a warning about these tapes: not only are they illegal, but the picture and sound quality are probably so bad that they are impossible to watch.
Check out This LW Page for some .WAV files from the movie.
Last Week's Poll Results: The question was "What was the coolest scene in The Lost World?", and although there was a fierce battle between the "Tyrannosaur attacks the Land Cruisers" and the "Ending Sequence (T-rex saves the day!)" the winner, with more than 38% of the vote was the Ending Sequence. The other votes were scattered around, with "Tim, Lex, and the two raptors in the kitchen" in third place, and "Tyrannosaur attack on the Gallimimuses" in fourth.
This Week's Poll: Okay, here's the big question. With the release of The Lost World this week, do you think it lives up to the original? Cast your vote in the Weekly Poll!
